The Canada tourist visa is also known as Canada Temporary Resident Visa (TVR). This visa guarantees you a maximum period of six (6) months to stay in Canada.
The Canadian tourist visa is of two (2) types; The Single entry visa and Multiple entry visa. Both visas are valid for a fixed period, after which the holder of the visa would have to reapply.
The Single entry visa guarantees the visa holder to enter Canada just once, after which he/she would apply for a new visa to enter Canada again.
The Multiple entry visa guarantees a visitor to come and go to Canada for six months at a time, without needing to reapply each time for a new one. But this type of visa can only be valid for a period of ten (10) years.
Canada Tourist Visa Requirements and eligibility criteria
To meet Canada eligibility requirements, you will need to prove to the immigration authorities the following things:
- You need to have a valid passport and other travel documents
- You must be in good health
- You must have good moral behavior
- That you have no intention to seek employment while in Canada
- That you agree to abide by the laws of Canada
- In some cases, you may also require a letter of invitation
- You must have the financial ability required to pay for your expenses while in Canada.
- You must be able to convince the immigration officer that you will leave the country before the expiration of your visa.
Steps to apply for Canada Tourist Visa
Before you apply for a Canada tourist visa, you need to be sure of your eligibility status. You should read through the visa/permit requirements on the CIC website to be sure that you qualify for the same. Follow the procedures below to apply for Canada tourist visa;
Step 1: Determine how you will apply:
You can either apply online or on paper. To apply online, you should use a scanner or a camera and your credit card ready to be able to behind your application process.
If you are applying on paper, you should download the application form for your visa and follow the steps in the form.
Step 2: Fill out the tourist visa application form:
This is where you need to be careful. Carefully read through the instruction guide and fill up the application form. Your application may be rejected if you do not provide all the required information, documents, and fees.
Step 3: Pay the processing fee:
At this stage, you should pay for the processing fee. Your fees must be paid via the recommended bank draft or certified cheque. You should also refer to the fee schedule for current fees and bank draft details.
Step 4: Visit the local Canada Visa Application Centre (CVAC):
Visit your local Canada Visa Application Centre (CVAC) or Canadian consulate. Do not forget to carry your passport or photographs, the completed forms and all supporting documents as per checklist and CIC fee instrument and payment instructions.
Step 5: Submit your application form:
At the local Canada visa application center (CVAC), submit your completed application and pay your service charges and get your receipt.
This receipt will contain your unique tracking number which is essential for tracking the progress of your application online. You will also be needed to give your biometrics.
