Anyone planning to enter Canada must apply for and obtain a temporary residence visa to do so. Unless, if you are Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
If you just wish to visit Canada, you have to apply for a visitor, or tourist visa except you are from a visa-exempt country.
While study and work permits are granted for undertaking or carrying out specific activities in Canada, a visitor visa has a wider scope. But that does not mean that there are no limitations on the kinds of things that you can and cannot do as a visitor.
This section will focus on things you cannot do on a Canadian visitor visa.
You Cannot Stay Permanently
A visitor visa only let you come into Canada and grants you temporary legal status in the country. But, you only maintain this status for as long as your visa is still valid. You cannot legally remain in Canada on a visitor visa that is no longer valid.
You Cannot Work In Canada
You cannot work in Canada. You need a valid work permit to work to do that. A visitor visa does not permit you to work in the country. Thus, you have to make sure you do not engage in any job-related activity where you directly enter the Canadian labor market during your stay as a visitor.
You Cannot Apply For Work Permit
While you can attempt to look for work on a visitor visa, you cannot apply for a work permit from inside Canada if you do get a job offer. You will have to return to your home country where you stay or the country of your origin and apply for the work permit at the appropriate Canadian visa office or consulate.
You Cannot Study in Canada
As a visitor visa holder, you can’t study in Canada unless you apply for a short course or program. In all other cases, you must have a study permit to legally study in Canada.
You Cannot Apply for Study Permit
You cannot apply for a study permit from inside Canada based on your status as a visitor. You will have to start the study visa process after returning to your home country.
The only exception to this rule that let a visitor apply for a study permit from inside Canada is if he or she has a family member holding a valid Canada work or study permit.
